No. 12 seed Buckeye Union felt the jitters, rushed its shots, was badly outrebounded and let a late lead slip away but still managed to live to see another day in first-round play of the Division II girls basketball tournament Wednesday night. A last-second putback from Oro Valley Ironwood Ridge's Casey Wortley fell off the rim and Buckeye held on for a 44-43 win to advance to the tournament's second around Friday night at No. 5-seed Flagstaff Coconino.
