Longer distance, fresh format lift optimism for Mexico tour opener

A longer distance for the second NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series race at Phoenix International Raceway, combined with the debut of Sprint Cup's new group qualifying format, could provide a fast start Friday for the track's 50th anniversary season. The Mexico tour's season opener will be 120 miles. Last year's race featured 50 laps, a 10-minute break, then a 25-lap run to the finish. Drivers from a dozen Mexican states are entered, including defending PIR winner Abraham Calderon and 2013 series titlist Rodrigo Peralta.
