ASU basketball forward Shaquielle McKissic living a hard-earned dream

Shaquielle McKissic wants people to know: Just because you make a mistake, it doesn't mean your life is over. There's always a different path, always a different way. McKissic, a senior forward on Herb Sendek's Arizona State basketball team, knows this as well as anyone. He's learned tough lessons. His journey to the Pac-12 included an arrest for burglary, stretches of homelessness and the loss of a close friend.

Phoenix Suns' running game not yet up to full speed

The Suns' winning record as the calendar turns to December has been surprising on its own but especially in light of the master plan being watered down from the start. A season that was going to be spurred by a sonic backcourt of Eric Bledsoe and Goran Dragic has seen them finish a game that they started together only three times in 17 Suns games.

ASU running back Marion Grice remains on sideline

As expected, Arizona State played without Marion Grice in Saturday night's Territorial Cup against Arizona. The senior running back watched the game on crutches from the sideline. Grice suffered a lower-leg injury in the second half of the Nov.23 victory over UCLA. In the week leading up to the contest, ASU coach Todd Graham simply labeled Grice as "day to day." And with practice closed to the public and media, Grice's availability was somewhat of a mystery as kickoff approached.

Phoenix Coyotes defensemen get needed rest in reshuffled lineup

Removing defenseman Rusty Klesla from the top six was designed to give the Coyotes a new-look on defense that offers stable defending and offensive opportunities, but it's also enabled the Coyotes to ease up the workload of their most-used defenders. "We are trying to balance the minutes out a little bit and make sure we're an efficient group out there," coach Dave Tippett said.

Phoenix Suns can't slow down the Utah Jazz in loss

With humility, the Suns explained away their two home victories and heartbreaking road loss against the 13-3 Portland Trail Blazers with a shrug to how some teams just match up well with others. The Suns struggled to beat the Jazz at home already once this season but actually giving Utah its first road win in 10 tries this season warranted a sheepish shrug of bad-matchup explanation. Utah, the NBA's worst team, beat the Suns 112-104 on Saturday night at US Airways Center.

GLENDALE -- Patrick Kane had a goal and an assist in a dominant first period, Antti Raanta made 31 saves for his second NHL win, and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Coyotes 5-2 on Saturday night to complete an impressive road trip. After watching a 3-0 lead become 3-2 after a sloppy second period, Brandon Bollig's goal with 9:11 left put it away for Chicago. NFL's big-game pressures overwhelming for officials

Football has a culture problem. Or maybe our culture has a football problem. Stadiums have become theaters of the absurd. As competitors risk their brains, the frothy mix of violence, gambling and alcohol addles ours. And at a time when this great game has spawned serious societal issues, from concussions to communities that lose all perspective and balance, the NFL is dealing with a new concern:

Todd Graham delivers on promises for Arizona State football program

PASADENA, Calif. -- For two years, Todd Graham stood trial in the court of public opinion. Saturday night the verdict game down: not guilty on all counts. After Arizona State's 38-33 victory over UCLA at the Rose Bowl, it was hard not to think back to Dec. 14, 2011.

ASU has much to play for in Territorial Cup rivalry game

Arizona is entering the Territorial Cup coming off its biggest win of the season. And rival Arizona State doesn't mind that one bit. The Wildcats upset No. 5 Oregon 42-16 on Saturday in Tucson. It was a nice all-around effort, especially coming off the previous week's home loss to Washington State. It gives Arizona momentum going into the Territorial Cup.

Taylor Kelly fits right in for ASU football

Fox analyst Charles Davis -- who worked Saturday's game said ASU quarterback Taylor Kelly often is overlooked, but he shouldn't be. "I was just saying this not too long ago," Davis said. "In the Pac-12 when you start talking about the best quarterbacks, you will tick off a number of names, then someone will say Taylor Kelly, and you'll say, 'Ah, that's right. I should've had him a little bit higher.' But I think he is so valuable to his team and how he leads and make key plays at key times that I'm not sure Arizona State would want any other quarterback to lead their program."
