Defense is a family affair for ASU women's Promise Amukamara

The longer Promise Amukamara plays basketball, the more she can stake a claim as the family's best defensive stopper. Her older brother Prince won't give up that title easily, because he's a starting cornerback for the New York Giants. But in her world, Promise, too, is shutting down the opposition for Arizona State women's basketball. Coach Charli Turner Thorne calls the junior guard a "game changer," and that's exactly what Amukamara did in the closing seconds of two tight road games last week. She forced a turnover by Utah's Danielle Rodriguez with ASU up by one point, then intercepted a pass to deprive the Utes of the chance for a tying 3-pointer. Against Colorado, Amukamara forced a turnover by Brittany Wilson with the score tied and fed the ball to Adrianne Thomas, who hit the game-winning free throws.
