The addition of winger Martin Erat required quite a bit of homework on the part of the Coyotes. General Manager Don Maloney quizzed fellow Czech Republic countrymen Radim Vrbata, Martin Hanzal and Zbynek Michalek about him, and coach Dave Tippett watched footage of Erat from the previous two weeks.
