Phoenix Coyotes can't keep pace with the Minnesota Wild at home

It isn't always easy to capture playoff urgency in early January, but that was the challenge that awaited the Coyotes on Thursday when they hosted the Minnesota Wild. Separation between the Coyotes and Wild in the Western Conference standings had been slim -- when it existed at all. They entered this meeting tied with 51 points with the Coyotes in possession of the final wild-card berth because they had played fewer games.
