As the Waste Management Phoenix Open unfolds this week at TPC Scottsdale, thousands of fans will flock to the tournament's signature 16th hole. It is a virtual golf amphitheater that has risen, literally and figuratively, from grass roots -- and it owes a great deal of its notoriety to Arizona golf's favorite son, Phil Mickelson. Golf Channel and CBS will spend an inordinate amount of time broadcasting the action there with Gary McCord serving as more master of ceremonies than broadcaster.
