P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll marathon now less about competition in Arizona

Ryan Neely won the 10th P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon last year in a time that barely would have beaten the first-place female when the race debuted in 2004. That's not to disparage Neely, a graduate student in neuroscience at the University of California. But it's a reflection of what's happened to the competitive side of an event that once paid $20,000 to the winners and now has a smaller prize purse than the Southwest Spine and Sports Mountain to Fountain 15K.
