After failing to land Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka on Wednesday, the Arizona Diamondbacks started their post-Tanaka phase of the offseason, signing utility man Shelley Duncan to a minor league deal on Friday. Duncan is a Tucson native and the son of new special assistant to the general manager and former St. Louis Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan. He played three season of college ball at the University of Arizona, earning first-team all-American honors in 2001, earning him a second-round selection by the New York Yankees in that year's draft.
