Phoenix Suns facing competitive West chase

When he was just the rookie head coach for a Suns team full of inexperience and void of expectations, Jeff Hornacek sat even-keeled during preseason games in October. He questioned the effect of coaches' sideline antics because he barely had heard or noticed them as a player. Then Hornacek's team showed him that it is capable of more than anyone knew. Ten wins and nine losses later, Hornacek spins away from broken plays muttering to himself and seeks explanation or shared disbelief from assistant coaches when players repeat mistakes. He has slammed a scorer's table in frustration, chewed out the team in a time-out huddle and barked at players who do not box out, hustle back or take open shots.
