ASU baseball falls to New Mexico

Arizona State dropped its first night game of the season, 7-1, to New Mexico on Tuesday in front of 2,575 fans at Packard Stadium. Sophomore first baseman David Graybill drove in the Sun Devils' (2-2) only run of the game with a solo home run in the fourth inning, and junior shortstop Drew Stankiewicz and sophomore catcher R.J. Ybarra each tallied a pair of hits.

Arizona Diamondbacks have at least 5 candidates for 'pre-arb' contract extensions

In his time with the Diamondbacks, General Manager Kevin Towers has finalized just one big-dollar, pre-arbitration contract extension, and that deal with first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is looking like a good one. If the Diamondbacks are looking to do more such deals, now's the time of year to do it.

Arizona Diamondbacks aim to build chemistry

On Monday, the Diamondbacks had a short workout before embarking on a roster-wide paintball trip. That came on the heels of a pitchers-and-catchers hike up Camelback Mountain last week and will be followed later in spring training by a golf tournament. If the Diamondbacks don't have a tight-knit clubhouse in 2014, it won't be for lack of trying.

ASU supporter Verde Dickey was much more than a 'booster'

Back in 2009 Don Bocchi, a senior associate athletic director at Arizona State, was recalling a conversation he had with Lisa Love, then the school's athletic director, about Verde Dickey, the longtime university supporter who passed away Saturday at 81. Bocchi and Love were discussing the state-of-the-art athletic facilities springing up east of Rural Road on ASU's Tempe campus, including the indoor football practice facility that originally was to be called the Verde Dickey Center in honor of Dickey.
