Chandler Basha tops Phoenix Horizon with late field goal

A sack near the end of the first half moved Chandler Basha just far enough for Cade Thompson to see his 42-yard field-goal try bounce off the crossbar as time expired. This time, quarterback Zach Werlinger moved his team in the final 2:24 from his 24 to the Phoenix Horizon 8, giving Thompson a chip-shot, 26-yard field goal to win it.

Phoenix Coyotes aim to start another streak

Needing to rebound from losses hasn't been regular protocol for the Coyotes this season, an early indicator that this team is in better shape than the previous one that missed out on the playoffs. "When you don't win, you look at why didn't you win, what gives you a better chance to win next time," coach Dave Tippett said. "Sometimes games like that get you back to reality, get you doing things right."

Miami Dolphins' Richie Incognito is far from 1st bully in team sports

Typically here at The Heat Index we prefer to take a lighter, humorous tone on the sports topics of the day. Unfortunately, bullying isn't very funny.

ASU basketball opens season with blowout win over UMBC

This week, Arizona State coach Herb Sendek said the Sun Devils were scrimmaging twice a week, an effort to put as many players in different situations. That carried over to Friday's opener, the coach trying out different parts, using nine players in the game's first eight minutes, 10 in the first half. The conclusion: Outside of a few players, Sendek - despite the 96-61 over Maryland-Baltimore County -- isn't sure what he has with this team. And that's fine. No doubt most teams across the country - if not all - are in a similar situation. ASU just might not have as long to figure it out this season simply because of the non-conference schedule. It has bite.
